Health and Safety planning: Set yourself up for success! There are rumors based on truth and myth. I say overprepare and then enjoy yourself worry free.
People may be home alone much longer than expected. Don’t expect to make a quick trip to the store or anywhere in that time. Be prepared that traffic may cause a domino effect of issues:
Here’s a few incredible links to get you started: Important resources to view: These came from Oregon Office of Emergency. Please click on each link and invest a brief moment to view each one.
Because...
We never know when our last day will be. We write our to do lists, plan to meet friends, or spend time with loved ones or finish a project at work, but we don't usually plan to die or to have our lives greatly altered. Of course, we can invest in good life insurance, medical and dental plans and have a will, and while those things are important they don't cover everything and they cannot prevent death, illness or injuries. On any given day you can have your life completely altered by a cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, car crash or any other number of things. In LIfe and Success Coaching one of the things we focus on often is "what is your why?", Not so much what you want to have or do but what value would it bring to you (why is something of importance to your life). So I ask you, in the spirit of American Heart Associations 2016 campaign.... What is your why? "LIFE IS WHY"? But lets go deeper with that. When I had my car crash in 2007 and nearly died several times, each time I was conscious enough to think, I knew that my children and grandchildren were the biggest reasons I wanted to stick around, heal and function again. My pets were next on my list and the causes I have worked for all of my life were still something I wanted to contribute to. As a Life Coach and Success Coach and other ares of my life where I strived to make a difference were something I wanted to return to once I knew my family was ok. It goes much deeper and far more detailed than that but that is the general overview of why I wanted life... and as important, I wanted enough quality of life so that I could show up and participate in the lives of my loved ones in a way that felt of value to me... more than laying there on life support, I wanted to participate. I wanted to see, hear and experience my kids smile, live, laugh, love, argue, fall, get back up, struggle, succeed, have their hearts broken, heal and grow and ALL of what life offers. How about you? If you were to leave this body today, what would you miss? What would you wish you had more time for or who would you wish you had more time with? Each person that needs CPR or "FAST" actions (Stroke signs and actions) has a story, they have a why whether they know it or not. Each time you show up to a scene at home, play, work or anywhere that you are needed to provided high quality CPR or First Aid, YOU give that person a fighting chance to continue to live their why. YOU get to make a difference! THANK YOU FOR LEARNING HIGH QUALITY CPR, FIRST AID AND OR BLS. Please feel free to add your "Life is Why" story. And or go to heart..org and find how you can share your story with American Heart Association. Information and tips on saving time & money when trying to get CPR certified: |

Here are some tips and suggestions to help you stay a strong and valuable life saver, and to do well in and out of the CPR class.
- Keep your certification current: This helps your skills, practice and knowledge stay fresh and up to date.
- While certification is required every two years, it is very wise to take a refresher course each year. Some instructors or training sites offer a discount if you do not need to skills test or receive your certification card. Mystic Lotus Health Safety Success does offer a discount for those just wanting to refresh by practicing and observing a class.
- Stay fit! Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, exercise and stretch regularly.
- Each month set study goals. Watch a video, read an article or simple look around at what's new on the AHA website, and read blogs such as mine. SMILE.
- Make sure you are taking care of yourself! Nutrition, fitness, sleep, relaxation, FUN, time with loved ones,
- During class: bring water to stay hydrated. Eat healthy that day to stay focused and to go easy on your body as you will be actively doing compression which can be quite a work out.
- Before class be mindful that you are going to class: Please do not wear perfume, cologne or fragrances that others may be allergic too. Remember that you will be in close proximity to other students.
- Please no lipstick or chap stick.
- It may be best to remove jewelry to prevent injury to yourself, other students or damage to the manikins.
- Dress comfortably and in layers as you will be bending and leaning over manikins and giving compressions and breaths.
- If you should ever need to perform CPR remember to push hard and fast (at least 2 inches), allow full recoil and go as long as you can or until EMS arrives. 30 compressions, 2 breaths, repeat.
- Switch every 5 cycles of 30 compressions if you have another trained person there to assist you.
- Be confident and calm. Doing CPR does not guarantee the outcome we desire, but it sure gives that person a far greater chance than doing nothing.
- Your life saving skills are needed and YOU make a difference! Do your best and you will be great!
- We can only do the best we can with what we know... this is why staying currently certified and keeping your skills and study fresh and up to date will keep you doing your best and improving what your best is that you have to offer.
HAPPY LEARNING. HAPPY LIVING.
